The IT List – Things To Do This Weekend

It’s Friyay!! And we could not be more excited. Also exciting, the new Joanne Hynes black pom pom coat that I just bought this morning at the second drop from the Joanne HynesXDunnes Stores collection. The new collection went on sale this morning, and – unless you rush online right now! – I think many of the best bits were snapped up by the early birds in store. The second installment of Hynes’ collaboration with Dunnes did not disappoint. The black pom pom coat with a delicious gold lining was on my hit list, but there were plenty of pieces to suit all budgets and ages. Lots of cosy knits – again, with pom poms, you can never have too many in your life! – gold and glitter tops for the festive season, and a faux fur coat in nude and autumnal tones. If accessories is more your bag, the embellished collars are back, along with some amazing detailed headgear. Get to the Grafton Street or St Stephen’s Green store asap, or check out the collection here.

On a completely different note, we are calling on all the 80’s babies to come out to the Bernard Shaw this evening and meet your childhood idol – he must have been? – Don Conroy. Don was ‘the man’ on the Den when we were growing up and for many, including me, our first art teacher. The owls, all the lovely owls. He will be in the Shaw this evening at 7pm for a free gig – is that what you call an art class?! – as part of their 10th birthday celebrations. Have your sketch pads at the ready. Legend!

The weather is set to stay nicely crisp and sunny this weekend, so why not take a hike in the Dublin mountains and take advantage of the fab views before the weather turns to pot! Nothing like a bit of fresh air to get rid of your work woes.

If being outdoorsy is not your bag, you can also get rid of the work woes with brunch and bubbles – that’s my plan! This weekend I am checking out Platform 61 on South William Street. Dublin is not short of places to brunch, the decision is often a nightmare with so many great places – first world problems. Another fav is Coppinger Row, Balfes and 777 for a margarita fix.

If you’re putting on the fire and staying in, the choice of amazing TV shows to binge on in the cold weather is endless. My Dad keeps raving about the new(ish) HBO show, The Night Of. Set in ‘real’ New York and described as a fictitious Making a Murdered, the critics – and my Dad! – are loving this one. A 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes is no mean feat. Plus is stars the wonderfully weird, John Turturro.

It’s Friyay! And we are excited. A) It is sunny in Dublin B) A fab Topshop skirt that hasn’t fit in months tied up on me this morning. It’s the small things.

culture-night1

I will keep this short. Go and do something for Culture Night 2016, wherever you are in the country. There are tones of amazing free events on tonight.

If in Dublin, go and see something for the Tiger Dublin Fringe. While Panti Bliss’ RIOT and Hot Brown Honey are getting a lot of attention, there are plenty of productions to suit all budgets and tastes, and nice to support the small guy/gal too.

wellfest

And if sweating, meditation or bending is more your bag, check out Wellfest in Herbert Park for a jam packed schedule of fitness classes, mediation, yoga, and mindfulness. Something for mind and body.

Have culture/fitness filled weekend, and feel extra smug on Monday.

H&M Studio Collection Lands in Store

og

Ah, H&M, you’ve gone and done it again. Made me spend all my wages in the first week of the month. Luckily I’m a big fan of beans.

The new Studio Collection – which hit stores this morning, September 8th – is dreamy, romantic, with a touch of goth and some interesting autumnal tones. In particular, I’m loving the loose tailoring and colour of the Jacquard-weave jacket and trousers, which is now in my shopping cart! There is a beautiful touch of velvet with the silver grey trouser suit, with white shirts and exaggerated sleeves featuring throughout.

H&M is the queen of the high street, and with studios collections like this and a Kenzo collaboration in November – eek!! – they are sure to hold onto their crown and break our banks accounts for many seasons to come.

P.S. I only bought the jacket because Man Repeller wore it. Obvs!

IT List: Beyonce & Other Things To Do in Dublin This Weekend

Beyonce-Albums-Shoulda-Been-Singles

Weekend, you got me lookin’ so crazy right now! Yes, yes, I am off to see Queen Bey tomorrow evening at Croke Park. And I’m excited! If I’m honest, I am more excited about kicking off with brunch at The Dean Hotel and a full day and night out with my sister. I am looking forward to seeing Beyoncé in the flesh, seeing what a – from what I have read – spectacular show she will put on; the costumes, the dancing, the general bad assness. But Beyoncé has lost her sheen for a lot of people over the year, and in particular since she ‘dropped’ Lemonade last month. Has anyone watched it in full? What is it actually called? For me, the most interesting part of it was reading the very revealing lyrics about her life with Jay-Z, the women, her Dad, the crying, the fact that a beautiful, successful woman can go through such hard times in her marriage.

Lemonade

When Beyoncé brought out her documentary in 2013 and spoke about how Jay-Z taught her how to be a woman, I was a little bit done. She has a strong, successful Mother and sister, but this ‘man’ – who we now find out is a liar and cheater – taught her how to be a woman? Please! Good role model work there Bey. ‘Kids, go out with a rich, successful dude and he will turn you into a rich, strong woman.’

Now, none of us can talk or judge when we are not in the marriage, but from the lyrics in Lemonade we find out in detail that this man did not treat her very well, but she is happy to stay with him and make money on the back of the whole thing. Smart? Maybe. Media and money hungry? Maybe. Each to their own I guess.

Saying all that, I can’t WAIT to dance to her old hits – she better play them –  with my skin and blister!

Stone Roses in Dublin

On the other side of the spectrum, the Stone Roses are playing in Marlay Park. I saw the band the last time they came to Dublin – known more for all the 30 and 40 something year olds who were let out of the house for one night and went absolutely insane than for the music. A great gig none the less.

High Street Sales in Dublin

If a packed concert is not your bag, and you have the stamina for a packed shop, I would hit up the sales before they come to an end. I went into Zara this week and the discounts are pretty amazing. Although, in a rush of blood to the head, I did buy too many skirts that don’t fit me – they were 7.99!!!! – and now have to take back.

Brunch in Dublin

For brunch, we are hitting up Sophie’s at The Dean, and I am very excited. The view makes you feel like you are in a very cool European city – are we not? – and I can’t wait to try the grub. There is so much choice on the brunch front in Dublin right now, I don’t know how they all survive. But its great for us living here! I checked out Gotham Cafe for brunch last Sunday – not an obvious spot – and their menu is fantastic and really different. One to check out for sure.

Whatever you do this weekend, have fun. Its summertime(ish).

Biddy – WEAR IT team.

The IT List

It’s Friday! And if your week has been as hectic as mine, you’ll be running for the fat pants, takeaway menu and wine opened as soon as you get home.

If you do decide to do anything this weekend, here are some tips;

WEAR IT:

Sunscreen. While the amazing sunshine we’ve been enjoying is set to be interrupted for two days, you still need your sunscreen. Firstly, because the sun is returning – about time we all scream – but also because you really should be protecting your skin whether the sun is melting the road or not. Why not add sunglasses, and get the pins out in shorts and a summer dress too, while we still can.

SEE IT:

Taste of Dublin

This would fall into the ‘See It’ and ‘Eat It’ category. Taste is currently sizzling up a storm at Dublin’s Iveagh Gardens, and will be doing so until Sunday night. Check out some of Dublin’s top resaurants, Ireland’s award winning chef – and food bloggers, i.e. Roz Purcell – music, bubbles, grass, chill out areas, you name it, it’s there. It’s the Electric Picnic for foodies. Well, a lot posher and the grub is fairly pricey!

HEAR IT:

Tune of the day – Feist, 1234……GO!
