If, like me, you’re a bag person – who isn’t? – then this summer is proving very difficult. We say “difficult” in a very first world manner, before anyone gets cross. The variety and choice of spring/summer styles on the bag market are endless. From tiny to wooden, mesh to transparent, beaded to bumbag (fanny pack if you’re reading this State side) the list is endless. And very fabulous.
While most of them are extremely impractical – don’t expect to take more than a bank card, some lippy and your phone – they are worth the risk of leaving that massive makeup bag, that you NEVER end up using anyway, at home. They are pretty, colorful, chic and hopefully not a micro-trend we see leaving anytime soon (looking at you teeny sunglasses).
The transparent look has been around for a while and is definitely cemented into the style bible by Celine’s shopping bag. The fanny pack – I do love that word – has been creeping it’s way onto our waists for a while and Gucci is the leader of the pack. Sorry! And when it comes to eclectic wooden designs Cult Gaia is the only label you need to know. But there have been some more affordable newcomers to the summer bag party, and two of our favorites are New York designer Susan Alexandra with her nostalgic, childlike beaded bags for grown ups. And Staud, who can’t seem to do any wrong, the brand is the epitome of effortless cool girl.

Whether pairing yours with simple mom jeans and a nice blouse – very French It-girl – or adding one to a full on street style fashion week look, there is one to suit everyone. My personal favourites are the beaded Susan Alexandra for their whimsical candy store vibes, bringing out the ‘little girl who always loved playing with her mums purse’ in all of us. Fashion doesn’t need to be serious, so express your sense of humour on your arm.
